Behold of its power! Literally everything in our world is built upon it. It defines the strongest towers, sturdiest wood, and even our human bodies. Without it, the entire world would sink in Chaos… And eventual death…
Alright, a little bit overdramatic, I agree. But it’s the truth. Which is why I want to take a deep dive into this simple word and concept. Without it, there barely can be any improvement in your skills or anything for that matter. So, let’s get to it.
What Is Structure?
Structure is a concept that every factor needs to be in the right place at the right time to achieve a certain result. The factors, time and place may vary based on the result, but the concept on itself stays the same.
Lets take a look at construction. The entire building and the process to build one is nothing more and nothing less than a huge structure, and its concept refined throughout many years and billions of investments in research.
Outside walls built on foundation, created with cement. Brick by brick, joined by mortar, placed in a certain manner to create a Structure that will carry the weight of the entire building. All of these components well thought through, tested and put on a Blueprint. This Structure played a huge role in our survival as a species, no less.
Our bodies are a Structure as well. A biological one at that. It can literally grow cells in order to compensate for lost ones. Not only that, it may even change itself radically based on adaptations, such as cold weather, sun exposure, work overload, etc. It also can adapt to Muscle stimulation in form of, you guessed it, Fitness.
Bones, muscle tissue, organs, blood, and so on. All built in a certain manner to create a living being. If one factor crumbles, the foundation starts to shake.
In Psychology, Structure plays a key role in stabilizing the Psyche and natural behavior. According to the study “A Cultural-Ecosocial Systems View for Psychiatry” from Frontiers in Psychiatry, Structure refers to organized patterns of behavior, social roles, and environmental factors (e.g., routines, cultural norms) that stabilize human functioning. These structured systems contrast with chaotic dynamics, where nonlinear interactions lead to unpredictable or disordered outcomes.
The authors also highlight that mental disorders often emerge from chaotic dynamics in social-ecological systems, such as disrupted routines or unstable social environments. For example, excessive variability in daily routines (e.g., irregular sleep or work schedules) can lead to psychological distress, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Structure Blueprint
Now that I gave you some examples, you now understand as to how Structure is important in our lives. And you will use it to improve your life and skills in all forms possible.
Which brings me to the second part of the article. How can you use this utmost power for yourself? Here is a step by step blueprint to create your own blueprint:
- Understand your goal. Be it Diet, Fitness, Mindset enhancement, or even just a simple skill. When you understand the goal and have a clear view on it, the path is visible as well.
- Research key components. Based on your goal, you need to understand the underlying factors that lead towards your goal. Taking the “road” analogy, you need to understand the weather and road conditions, what the road is made of, what kind of rework and material it needs, and so on.
- Create a timeline with milestones. When building a road towards a goal, it is always important for your mind to know where it is, how far its got and how much is left. That’s where the milestones come into play and with a clear timeline, you remove the burden off your mind and Focus on the act itself, which raises your productivity. If you don’t map out the timeline, you risk confusion and demotivation.
- Eliminate distractions. As stated in the article about Focus, elimination of the unnecessary elements in your journey is a must. Remove everything that will slow down your progress and make your blueprint as straightforward and simple to follow as possible.
- Review and adjust weekly. As in everything, track the progress and review it. Make tweaks for improvement.
Structure Tools
In this wonderful age of information, many “Structures” can be downloaded through the internet. Such as a Diet plan, Training plan, concepts can be read about like “SMART” (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) or OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) that can help Structure your Journey even further and with the knowledge that I gave you, you may either create your own or change the existing ones to fit YOU to improve yourself and conquer every challenge you face!
That’s it for this article. I hope you liked it. Don’t forget to check out my other articles such as “Are you Fit enough?” or “The Truth behind Diet”! And if you want article updates (or see me in underwear) subscribe to my Newsletter. See you in the next article!
